Corsica, 21st of August, Saleccia beach

The taxi boat
for Saleccia beach was a retirees business, a pair which found a new way to stretch their money. If you were a fan of the Netflix movies showing Brits moving down south, that would be a perfect example.

We arrived one hour earlier just to stroll San Florent (San Firenzu) and visit the stores close to central plaza. I ordered an artisan gelato for Emma while I was tasting some Corsican peaches. I don't know why the hype with the beach, maybe because the color of the water and the gentle entry, no rocks and many boats anchored not far from the shore.

The boat ride was speedy and bumpy (they wanted to carry as much people to the beach). I was concerned because Emma was the only kid in the group and everyone was grabbing the bars in order to keep their balance. No hats or flying scarfs were allowed and Emma's hair was getting a blow, which she liked it.

Reaching the shore we jumped in the water and walked to the beach.Just from the visit to Carrefour, I installed an umbrella and the beach towels. I had to pick an umbrella ready to be folded in the big luggage. There is no shade on the beach and the hot temperature forced everyone in the water or under umbrellas. Many tourists were sleeping in the shade.

Emma stayed in the water and looked at the kids, at their games and tried a few "courageous" swimming adventures. Our time slot for visiting was between 2pm and 7.15 pm. Many people were coming from a nearby camping site and enjoyed that long European vacation. I did not have that feeling of laziness and no worries in ages, that you can decipher on their face. Even for this short vacation I had to take care of what to do everyday. It was not planned too much in advance. The hikes were determined by browsing the internet and then, by chance, buying one book about famous trails in Corsica. The San Petrano peak was one of the recommended hike and even in that one, at the beginning I managed to get lost in the first 2 kilometers.

Later in the afternoon (after 6 PM) the light became nice and I wander up the dune to take some pictures. There is a trail between Saleccia and Lotu beaches but having a limited time we stayed put.

Take a look at my attempts to make that place attractive to you.

At the end of the day, the light has the honey accents, the shadows get amplitude and the architecture is flooded with horizontal light. In certain places is the best time to take pictures and Corsica has many spots like that.

On the road back, in the semi-dark of the dawn, I had two nice opportunities. One was on descending a mountain with the horizon displaying waves of peaks in different shades (I call it - 50 shades of grey in photography). The other was a white village on a slope of a mountain.

I wasted the first one because there was no space on the shoulder to stop the car, and stopped at the second site. That was the dilemma in Corsica, where to stop and how not to hinder the traffic on tight roads.

I hope you will enjoy the pictures of the second site!

When gaffes are used strategically

Photo by Kyle Head on Unsplash You probably heard that swimming in rough waters in life will reveal your own character and of all the people with you, caught in that moment. It is always unexpected and, exactly as in movies, it begins with a peaceful background and a monotone sound. Everything is unfolding slowly and without any clues that deep gaps will be revealed in any way. It is like a crack in someone's emotional fabric which becomes a wrecking ball for the characters caught in the event, for a short time span, sufficient to project them on a different life orbit, for good. Some people are calling those events "interventions", others fear them as "dark spots" where secrets are emerging as an iceberg unbalanced by some life event. The repercussions are deep and memorable and entail subsequent turmoils, like a burning lava which will flow down for many days to find a peaceful landscape to cool off. The characters are the same like in normal life ...

The Big Split

Photo by CDC on Unsplash   Detect immunity One of the numbers broadcasted every day is the number of COVID-19 patients who recovered. Instead of being fixed on detecting people with corona virus, we should be fixed on detecting the ones who had a mild version of corona virus or even were asymptomatic. Once we know they can freely move, socially mark them in a certain way (with a special certificate).  They could be the soldiers of opening closed businesses or helping important economic sectors. They are on the other side of the fear, all the COVID-19 restrictions should not apply to them. It is not known for how long is the immunity lasting, but at least, these people should come back and revive the industries and get the jobs and make the economy re-start. It is a small number, but they can propel some ideas for the ones in the isolation (see below). That should be the second most important decision of our governments - detect immunity, instead of just...

The sprint to stop an epidemic - Corona virus

Photo by Trust "Tru" Katsande on Unsplash I was reading about the developing efforts for a vaccine reflected through the stock market. It happened to have a few shares of the VIR Biotechnology ( VIR ) company when the chase of finding a vaccine started. It was an incredible ride, even for a guy accustomed with the up-and-downs of the shares in a company and the political game played when companies are bought or acquired. Just for illustration, please see the chart of this stock for a three month period. There is excitement, at the beginning  of March about the possibility of developing a vaccine for Corona virus, and the stock surpasses 70$/share when before is was lingering under the 17$/share threshold. There are many companies in the race - Moderna ( MRNA ), Gilead ( GILD ), Inovio Pharmaceuticals ( INO ) and probably a few of them will find a virus. What I don't understand is the effort spent in parallel of fighting the same cause. It is a lot of ...
