In times like this I wonder if the people with their hand on the power lever have second thoughts - about handling the major problems instead of wasting our money and their life time in petty quarrels or egocentric show offs.
They can be in a hospital fighting for their life or looking at someone close to them separated by a thick glass.
If you are a doctor, sick on a hospital bed, will you relinquish a ventilator for a younger bum?
Is any doctor going to apply the same rule, the younger have priority over a ventilator? Or, if you are a famous basketball player, are you going to make that gesture? Yes, I know that at this moment nobody wants to think about it, but how about doing more that just staying put within your four walls?
Is this crisis going to move a few marbles and change your view on life and what you will do from now on?
You probably may understand there are more barriers the wealthy and the powerful are putting between them and the world. It is going without saying that they can use any means to reduce contact with other people and go through many steps in order to reduce exposure of any type. They are totally living on another planet, and if you don't believe me, just ask yourself, hypothetically, who do you think is buying bunkers and prepare them, just in case.
And we all know that is not how life is playing out, in reality. Look at China, who first blamed the ophthalmologist doctor about spreading rumors and then the the Communist Party got wind of the "social wind trends" and reversed its decision: he was a hero, a revered member of the party.
I don't know if the current tsunami in public health is going to alter anyone's conscious in the government's people. I refer here to all the sensible problems that you think you are isolated from just because you reached a certain social/employment/famous status. Or is it just like a crumbling building where you fix a floor and then move to another floor, hoping the patches will keep you safe for a while.
Life is not layered, it is not going to protect you if the whole class of people are going to die or be infected. You cannot isolate people and hope to solve the problem in an interval of a few weeks - it is like studying for an exam when slacking the whole semester when you supposed to work your butt off.
Unfortunately, mankind does not like to look back and relive the fear, the desperation and have a analytic discussion to learn from those mistakes. History is a good indicator how population dealt with extinction problems unfolding under their eyes - the Easter Island, many forgotten civilizations.
I hope the fear, the desperation and the loupe the social media has been becoming these days to shake a few souls and make them choose differently when the "normal times" come.
